network Council for a Parliament of the World's Religions (CPWR)
Parliament Program: The theme of the 2004 Parliament is “Pathways to Peace: The Wisdom of Listening, The Power of Commitment.” The Parliament will offer 500 programs covering a broad range of topics and formats. Programs will be arranged thematically by the following categories: Intra-religious - religious and spiritual communities share their stories; inter-religious - religious and spiritual communities dialogue with each other; and engagement - religious and spiritual communities work together. Lou Ann Trost, CPWR staff, in Oxford Parliament Assembly: The Parliament Assembly is a gathering of over 400 religious and spiritual leaders, scholars, grassroots organizers, members of guiding institutions and young people. The focus will be on debt relief, refugees, water, and religious violence. The Council is developing a process for communities to engage in these critical issues and make commitments to simple and profound acts that address these issues. This process will then be made available to participants during the Parliament event. Josh Borkin, CPWR staff, in Oxford
Pre-Parliament Events: The Council actively supports the planning and hosting of pre-Parliament events in cities around the world. These events serve as a catalyst for the local interreligious movement and encourage registration and participation in all aspects of the 2004 Parliament of the World’s Religions. Partner Cities Network: The
Partner Cities project fosters a network of vital community-based and
socially engaged interreligious movements in metropolitan areas around
the world. This network facilitates the sharing of learning and Goldin Institute: The Goldin Institute for Partnership and Peace is an annual gathering for the Partner Cities Network, where community organizers and religious representatives from partner cities meet to discuss grassroots methods and tools. The 2003 Goldin Institute will be held in October in Manresa, Spain, with the theme “Social Cohesion in the Midst of Diversity and Migration.”
